Last month I was invited along to BBC Bristol Radio to talk about dating for the mature! I spoke about clients in their 60’s, 70’s and early 80’s who just cannot face the fact that they are alone. It was about lonely, more mature people in later years, their experiences and their expectations! One programme was about the physical side of a relationship too and how important this still is for many people of a certain age.
Something the presenter touched on was the ‘Silver Divorce’ which is something I am constantly hearing. Basically it is about middle aged people leaving their spouses after 25 years, realising they had little in common after the children had left home and having the courage to start again on their own! I should imagine that compared to our parents’ generation where marriage was more of a commitment, the world has changed and we are living longer, healthier and fitter and appearing younger.
I have recently interviewed an amazing gent who has just turned 81 but fit and active with a sharp mind. He had been widowed after a long and happy marriage and was really needing companionship and friendship – perhaps more! It was refreshing that he did not feel at all old and his wit and warmth would be a great attraction for any lady.
